An SEO strategy is the process of analysis, planning, organization, and implementation of steps and techniques to improve the positioning of your website in the search engines, increase organic traffic, and, of course, attract more qualified leads.
How to create an SEO strategy?
Websites are a great source of leads. Imagine if any prospect Google searches for the product or service you offer and you appear in the first places of search, they will surely enter your website. 🙂
If you want to achieve it but do not know how to do your SEO strategy from scratch, I share the steps below to create yours.
1. Set your short, medium and long term goals
A goal is a purpose you want to achieve through a set of actions. These can be short, medium, and long term.
In SEO, and in any other digital and inbound marketing strategy, it is important to define the objectives from the beginning to keep your efforts focused.
Keep in mind that SEO results are not immediate, they will not be reflected in the short term, probably until the medium or long term, depending on the level of competition. Here, it is common for companies not to see results, they begin to combine other techniques to those established trying to achieve the results they did not obtain, but it is a mistake.
2. Define your target audience
This step is essential because everything else you do will depend on it. It will help you define what types of techniques to apply, the actions, and above all, to create highly relevant content for your audience.
3. Make a list of keywords
Keywords or keywords, in simple words, are the terms by which the user searches to find exact or related information.
The list of keywords you select must be closely related to the objectives set out in the first step. Here, you should include the keywords of your services page, related content, and any other closely related ones.
Save this list, as it will help you later to create your keyword analysis or keyword research and your content strategy.
4. Analyze your competition
Analyzing your competition does not mean replicating your SEO strategy. It is about observing and analyzing what tactics are helping to position your website and of those, which could help yours.
One technique I recommend you do is research your keywords with the most traffic. There are tools like Ahrefs, where you can explore the best organic pages and keywords for a domain. If you find that they are useful for your site, analyze them, and add them to your keyword list.
5. Optimize your site for search engines
SEO On Page is the set of actions carried out within your company’s website to improve its positioning.
In addition to obtaining better results in your strategy, improving the SEO of your website helps you to:
- Facilitate search engines to understand what each of your web pages is about, what is or are their keywords, and the titles by which they want to be related.
- Improve user experience, an important factor for Google.
- Give relevance to the most important pages throughout your website through web architecture, a basic aspect of SEO, and that most companies fail.
In this step, you must make a checklist of all the elements that you must optimize, among the most important of which are:
- Charging time
- Titles and labels
- Image optimization
- Web semantics
- The UX or user experience.
6. Create content for your website
Make a list of contents that you must make to position the keywords of the previously created list.
To make the process of planning and creating content easier, you can write pillar pages and build content clusters, which are complementary articles to the main one. This tactic helps you give more authority to a specific content which is based on a keyword that you want to position.
If you already have content created and related to the keywords or pages you want to position, update those contents. Google increases the relevance of this content on outdated results.
Always remember to optimize your content to achieve a better organic positioning: add the keyword in the introduction and conclusion, optimize the alternative text of the images, the URL, and use tags in the titles and subtitles.
7. Carry out SEO Off-Page techniques
The SEO Off Page is the set of tactics that are carried out outside the website to improve its positioning. There are many SEO Off-Page techniques, so I recommend you research each one and choose two or three that are according to the company’s business and that help you meet your stated objectives.
In this step, I also recommend creating an interlinking strategy, it is about linking between two pages on the same website. It is essential in both SEO On Page and Off Page, however, it stands out more in the second because, if you get an inbound link to the main page (which contains links to complementary pages), you transmit authority to them.
8. Monitor inbound links
There are 2 important reasons why you should periodically monitor your links:
- When your content is relevant and quality, users start to take it as a reference and possibly share the URL of your content in theirs. In this case, link monitoring helps you identify which articles are shared the most and have control of inbound links.
- If you have already managed to reach the top places in a search relevant to you, your competition may want to harm you. Some companies may add inbound links to your website on poor quality pages that can harm your authority. When it happens to you, I recommend you to de-index those links that you see different from the ones you have added or that are unsafe sites.
9. Monitor the position of your keywords
Keyword monitoring is essential to take into account whether your actions are on the right track or not. If you have carried out web positioning actions for specific keywords and you see that it is still in the same place or they have dropped in position, review the tactics to meet your objectives.
In this step, I also recommend monitoring from Google, what are the results that are in the first place, if they have changed or another has been added, and with it, review their keywords or better pages to analyze if it would help you improve your position.
10. Improve your strategy
Google’s algorithm is constantly changing, so you should review the actions of your strategy every time the target period is over.
It will sound repetitive, but every time you review your plan, I recommend you redo all the steps I mentioned to improve your results.
Does your company have an SEO strategy?
If you want to improve the positioning of your website, you must have an SEO strategy to carry out all your activities under the same path. In the SEO area, it’s easy to make changes to your website and create backlinks, but you probably won’t see results if they’re not focused.
In addition, you must take into account that SEO does not give you short-term results, so you must be patient to see your results.
